I’ve made my peace with the fact that it can take me anything from thirty minutes to an hour to compose an email reply and about twenty minutes to reply to a LinkedIn comment.

However, I feel it deserves my time and have factored it into my work. Someone has spent time writing a LinkedIn post and, if it resonates with me, it deserves a thoughtful reply, Similarly, if I get an email from an author who has spent months, if not years working on a manuscript, my reply normally has some element of feedback to it and deserves a considered response. There are emails that I have templates for, such as those for quotes, but if I’m asked questions about a specific manuscript the author deserves a personal response.
